Norton ghost software for windows 7
Why don't I want to use the backup built into Win 7 you ask? Here're just a few reasons: 1) Ghost takes under 15 min. As we are talking about user data here, it is only correct that Symantec should address these changes and Microsoft, in the short term, flag that there are compatibility issuesīeta tester of Windows 7, Norton Internet Security2010 and Ghost15 Whilst some users of earlier versions will achieve successes in their use of the program, it is recognised that not all will be so fortunate. In pursuit of a better software experience for all of their customers who use Ghost and other backup products from the Symantec stable, work is currently in hand to test the next version that will interface seamlessly with Windows7. Symantec have been aware of these changes and resultant issues, albeit that some are minor, others are more significant. There are a number of compatibility issues with Ghost 12 & Ghost 14 in Windows7Ĭreation of additional files/folders backups, control of recovery points deleted, One time virtual conversion to name but a few. Sure makes you wonder, doesn't it! Any info on this mystery would be greatly appreciated. Oh yes, Action Center says "No current issues detected".
It seems like MS needs to either explain what the "known incompatability" is or stop putting out bad warnings, one or the other.

So I must ask, is there some hidden gotcha that's one day going to jump out and huff and puff and blow my house down? :-) If so, I'd sure like someone to tell me what it is! My suspicion is that the Symantec update fixed whatever the problem was, but information on this subject has eluded me.
So my question is WHAT compatibility problem? I searched Symantec's Web site and didn't see anything there, and have seen posts here pointing to incompatibilities with Ghost, but it's working perfectly well for me.

Feeling adventuresome (since it runs perfectly well with the RC1 version), I clicked "install anyway", downloaded the latest updates from Symantec (over 200 MB as I recall) and have been successfully running Ghost 12 ever since, just like I've been doing with the RC1 version (Win 7 32 bit version) since May. I'm testing the Win7 Enterprise edition, and ran into a "known incompatibility" message when installing Norton Ghost 12.
